Bio

María Platero is a teacher and tutor in the Master in Photographic Creation of the Lens School of Visual Arts in Madrid. She was a member of the creative team, editor and curator of Fanzine 10×15, a magazine dedicated to contemporary photography. She also collaborated with Input Art Magazine, as head of photography and editorial board. Her commissions include editorials for Psychologies magazine.

Her artistic investigations start from Photography to raise questions about the protocols and established conventions that regulate our life, with which we build our reality, as well as about the need we have to measure things to understand them, to order what is possible.

Her work is often based on objects that generate an alteration of the material conditions of possibility of the world in which we exist. They are constructed images, calculated actions that intersect with the potential of documentary photography to record ephemeral occurrences. Even, and above all, when this involves going through stupid proposals.

Randomness, unstable balance, uncertainty, Chaos Theory or the idea of drift between the planned and the improvised, are some of the ideas that appear in her latest personal projects.

Her exhibitions include Fotofever 2014, Photo Off 2011 and VOZ Galerie, Paris, France; the Portuguese Centre of Photography, Porto, Portugal; Kaunas International Photography Festival 2009, Lithuania; Photoespaña 2019, Madridfoto 2009,ARCO’09, Espacio OTR, Alliance Française, Espacio F, all in Madrid; Emergent International Visual Arts Festival, Lleida, Spain, among many others.
